ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Buster McCollum has spent his life creating beautiful custom woodworking projects ranging from furniture, chairs, tables, bowls to cutting boards and much more. He is committed to the most quality wood from the local forests in South Carolina and by drying the wood himself in a solar kiln in his woodshop, his wooden pieces have a more vibrant color and will last decades. He is based in Easley, South Carolina where he runs a wood-crafting shop and gallery of his best work. His company's name, Buster and Sons. is inspired by his son Adam and his three grandsons, Aiyan, Ari and Maks.
ABOUT THE COLLECTIONS
While all the bowls are prepared with food safe wax and mineral oils, most people like using Buster and Sons bowls for décor and storage. They range from 4" to 16" wide and depth varies from 1" to 10" deep. Cedar, walnut, hickory, chestnut oak, spalted maple and red oak are available in all sizes. Every shape is different and is made by hand on a wood lathe. Bowls By Buster is the artist's newest collection and launched in 2017.
After Buster's daughter, Ashley, asked him to make a cutting board for her first apartment in New York City, many of her friends started buying them as gifts. It was the first wood product he mastered and he's created over 500 boards in the last 5 years. All cutting boards are prepared with food safe wax and mineral oils are safe for food preparation (but we do not recommend cutting raw meats on the porous wood). One side of the board is for cutting and preparation and you can flip it to the other side for serving. Sizes are 12" and 18" and 24" long with varying width between 8" to 12". Cedar, walnut, hickory, chestnut oak, spalted maple and red oak are available in all sizes. Buster's signature is a cutting board with at least one live or natural edge, showing the beauty of the original tree. Shapes are unique to each piece but are generally rectangular with rounded edges.
Buster first discovered his ability to build furniture when he was frustrated by the low quality of Adirondack chairs from big box stores. They were expensive, made out of inferior woods and quickly deteriorated outside. He was determined to create a beautiful, affordable version of his own for his family porch. Priced at an accessible $349 for one chair or $595 for the set -- two chairs and a side table -- these Adirondack chairs are perfect for sitting by a fire or by the pool. If you need to see over your porch railing or bannister, the Tall Adirondack chair may be your best option for $399 for one chair or $699 for the set.
All the creations described above can be customized or ordered in bulk. Buster also makes larger custom orders and has worked on projects like a wooden counter top, 12-person dinner table, live edge mirrors, desks, coffee tables, jewelry boxes, baby cribs, night stands and much more.
